OLGA CHIAPPINELLI
Hi, my name is Olga Chiappinelli and I studied Economics at the University of Siena, graduating in 2010. After obtaining my PhD in Economics from IMT Lucca and spending a semester at UCL in London as a visiting researcher, I moved to Berlin to work for a few years as a Postdoctoral researcher at the German Institute for Economic Research (DIW Berlin). I am currently an Assistant Professor at the Department of Economics of Barcelona University.
In my research I focus on the microeconomics of regulation and public procurement. I am for example interested in investigating how to design procurement mechanisms to minimize the scope for opportunistic behavior of companies (e.g., corruption, underprovision of quality), or how to design credible environmental policies to trigger investments in green technologies.
Studying Economics in Siena spurred my first interest in microeconomics and in particular in the theory of incentives as a powerful tool to influence the actions of self-interested economic agents towards socially desirable goals.
