My name is Francesca Viani and I work as a senior economist in the Directorate General of Economics, Statistics and Research of the Bank of Spain.

After graduating from the University of Siena in 2005, I got a MSc in Economics from Universitat Pompeu Fabra and a PhD in Economics from the European University Institute.

My research –mainly focused on international macroeconomics— deals with global imbalances, international risk-sharing, bottlenecks in the global supply of goods and services, and with the economic impact of trade fragmentation across geopolitical blocs.

The exposure to a variety of advanced topics, as well as the rigorous technical knowledge acquired at the University of Siena were indispensable to pursue my postgraduate studies.
