CARMINE PORELLO
I am Carmine Porello and I am currently the Chief Representative of the Bank of Italy for North America. Previously, I served as the Deputy Director of the Bank of Italy’s Brescia branch (2018‑21), Advisor to the Minister of Economy and Finance (2013‑18), Economic and financial expert at the Embassy of Italy in Beijing (2008‑13) and economist at Bank of Italy’s Bari branch (2001-08).
In my different working experiences, I have dealt with local economies, international cooperation, public finance, banking and financial supervision, and payment systems. Over the years, these positions have gradually required managerial, in addition to specialist skills.
The city of Siena and its University, where I graduated in economics in 2000, played an important role in my training and development; those years were full of opportunities to grow and learn, which helped me build the needed foundations to cultivate a critical, versatile thinking ability, capable of facing heterogeneous challenges and contexts. I warmly remember the professors I was lucky enough to meet in Siena, who decisively contributed to awaken in me the curiosity towards the world of economics and its institutions, which over the years has become a profession and a passion.
