FRANCESCO CERIGIONI

My name is Francesco Cerigioni, and I graduated from the University of Siena with a degree in Economics. My educational journey at Siena has been foundational for my career in economics, setting the stage for my successive academic achievements and professional growth.

Studying at the Department of Economics at the University of Siena provided me with a comprehensive understanding of economic principles and analytical techniques. The rigorous coursework and challenging academic environment were crucial in developing my analytical skills, which have been indispensable throughout my career. These skills formed the bedrock of my further studies and research in economics.

I would like to acknowledge the profound influence of several professors who guided and inspired me during my time at Siena: Andrea Battinelli, Ennio Bilancini, Sam Bowles, Alberto Dalmazzo, Nicola Dimitri and Stefano Vannucci. Their mentorship and guidance were pivotal in shaping my academic formation. They not only imparted essential knowledge but also provided invaluable advice on navigating the path to achieving my goals.

Building on the solid foundation I received at Siena, I was able to further my education and career. I pursued a Master's degree at the Barcelona School of Economics (BSE) and subsequently completed my PhD at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB). These advanced studies equipped me with specialized knowledge and research skills, enabling me to contribute meaningfully to the field of economics with publications in very important journals in economics. I then became a professor at Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF), where I had the opportunity to engage in cutting-edge research and teach the next generation of economists. My career has since evolved to working in the field of artificial intelligence, where I apply my economic expertise to new and exciting challenges.

One of the most significant aspects of my education at Siena was the exposure to unorthodox economic thinking. The department encouraged critical thinking and the exploration of alternative perspectives, fostering a mindset that values innovation and challenges the status quo. This approach has been instrumental in my research, allowing me to confidently question standard methodologies and develop novel theoretical frameworks.

In conclusion, my experience at the University of Siena's Department of Economics has been crucial to my career in economics. The rigorous training, inspirational professors, and exposure to diverse economic perspectives provided me with the tools and confidence to excel in my field. I am deeply grateful for the education and support I received at Siena, and I am proud to carry forward the knowledge and skills I gained there in my ongoing work in economics and artificial intelligence. I wholeheartedly recommend anyone to take up the challenge of a degree from the economics department at Siena.
